Magpies boss Johnson Hippolyte has praised Martin Ireland after the United coach left York Road after two years with the club.

Ireland is to be replaced by former Windsor & Eton boss Simon Lane.

Hippolyte said: “I want to thank Martin for his effort over the last two years and for all his hard work.

“He’s been a great man to have at the club and we all wish him well.

“We will replace him with Simon Lane who is someone I’ve been wanting for some time.

“He’s an A-licence coach and he will strengthen what we’re trying to do at the club.”
