Marlow set for Luton clash

11:30am Thu 22nd Jul 10:: written by Charles Watts

Marlow play their second pre-season game of the summer tonight (Thursday) when Luton Town visit Oak Tree Road.

The game (7.45pm ko) was requested by the Hatters, who are celebrating their 125th anniversary, after they discovered that their first competitive game was against Marlow in an FA Cup tie on Saturday, October 31, 1885.

On that occasion Marlow ran out 3-0 victors but boss Kevin Stone is not expecting a similar scoreline this time around.

He said: “As far as I’m aware they are supposed to be sending down their 1st team so it’s going to be a difficult game.

“I’m looking at it as a fitness thing. I’m not putting out a side to try and beat them, I’m putting out a side to try and get fitness levels up.

“Obviously I don’t want to lose 10-0 but the main thing for me is fitness at the moment, getting everyone ready for the start of the season.”

He added: “It should be a good night though, all the players are looking forward to it, as is everyone at the club.”
