Scott 'we will bounce back'

Windsor & Eton boss Keith Scott is confident his side will bounce back from their first league defeat of the season and insists it will not derail their title bid.

The Royalists surrendered their proud 32 game unbeaten run in the league following a 2-1 defeat at fellow promotion hopefuls Bridgwater on Saturday.

But Scott’s men remain 16 points clear at the top of the Southern League South & West Division as nearest rivals AFC Totton fell to a 1-0 home defeat against Paulton Rovers on Tuesday night.

Totton do still have four games in hand on the leaders but Scott knows what position he would rather be in.

He said: “Obviously it was disappointing to lose that record but it’s not the end of the world.

“Even when people kept saying to me that we could stay unbeaten all I was focusing on was  winning the league.

“That has always been our main objective, anything else was just a bonus.

“Staying unbeaten for a season at this level is so difficult. It’s harder than at professional level as my players don’t have time to rest, they have to go to work.”

Scott did admit, however, that his players took the defeat badly.

He added: “They were more disappointed than I was, looking around the dressing room you would have thought they’d just been relegated.

“That’s how gutted they were. They knew they hadn’t played as well as they had recently.

“They weren’t feeling sorry for themselves, they were more annoyed with themselves for not keeping up to their usual standards.

“But as a manager you reflect on things a bit more, it’s certainly not the end of the world as we’re still 16 points clear and in a great position.”
