Drax delighted by Magpies form

A haul of four points from two home games this week has delighted Magpies boss Johnson ‘Drax’ Hippolyte.

United came from behind to beat Hampton & Richmond 2-1 on Saturday before earning a well deserved 0-0 draw against high-flying Braintree Town on Tuesday night.

They now sit 15 points away from Conference South drop zone and

Drax admits they can stop looking nervously over their shoulder.

He said: “The boys have been great, we’ve been playing well for quite a while now.

“I thought we were comfortably the better team against Hampton, even in the first half when they were leading.

“At half-time I said to the lads to keep doing what they had been and I was sure the goals would come.

“I thought we were excellent again in the second half and we scored two very good goals

Drax added: “On Tuesday I’m sure Braintree were very happy to leave York Road with a point.

“Chris Tardif didn’t really have a save to make, to be fair their keeper didn’t have much to do either but we were definitely the more dangerous side.

“We dominated possession and played some good stuff against a team who have been near the top all season and have only lost five times.

“That shows how far we’ve come recently. The last three or four weeks have been good even though sometimes we didn’t get our just rewards.”

The Magpies will be looking to continue their decent run of form but know they face two tricky away games this week.

They travel to Welling United on Saturday before making the journey to Thurrock on Tuesday night.
