Scott: 'Chennells is a League player'

1:00pm Thu 4th Feb 10:: written by Charles Watts

Windsor & Eton boss Keith Scott says he is ‘gobsmacked’ that a manager of a Football League club has not taken a chance on Royalists striker Michael Chennells.

The livewire forward is in sensational form at present, coming off the bench to score the winner in last Saturday’s 1-0 win against AFC Hayes, before bagging a hat-trick in Tuesday’s 3-0 win at VT FC.

That treble took his tally for the season to 17 from just 24 games and Scott insists there is still more to come.
He said: “Michael is League player. I’m amazed nobody has taken a gamble on him.

“He consistently scores 20 league goals a season and that is a great achievement - whatever level you play at.

“But what he’s also done since Jim (Melvin) and I arrived is improve his all round game.

“His link up play, ball retention and his movement have come on leaps and bounds. He’s just a wonderful all round player.”

Scott added: “On Tuesday night he had three chances and scored all three, it was fantastic finishing.

“He’s 24 years old and if I was a League manager I would come and get him – I’m gobsmacked that no-one has.

“When I was playing under Martin O’Neill he said to me that strikers are judged on the goals they score.

“He said a lot of strikers just score the fourth and fifth goals in 5-0 wins but the ones who score the important goals in games are the ones that are worth a lot.”
