Myers lands at the Hangar

2:56pm Mon 1st Feb 10

Slough Jets have snapped up goaltender Joe Myers from EPL rivals Romford Raiders.

Myers came on for the final 15 minutes to make his debut in Saturday's 12-1 drubbing of his former club.

Coach Pete Russell said: "Joe is good lad who I knew when I was in Cardiff. He was back up for the Devils the last two years before moving to Romford.

"As it is things didn't work out for him there and I am glad he has come to us and his signing gives us a capable back again. Hopefully Joe will work hard and this fresh start will get him going again."

On a sadder note for the Jets Carl Thompson has announced he is only going to be playing part time.

He said: "Its been difficult for me juggling work, studying and hockey this season and felt like I needed to make a change.

"After a drink and chat with Pete to discuss it all I'm happy the we've reached agreement on me going part time which means I still get to be part of the team but will not be training or playing as much. I wish the team the best for the games I wont be there for."

Russell added: "I think Carl is a bigger man for admitting this and a smart man as he is building a strong future for himself as well in doing so.

"But I didn’t want him to quit as he is a Slough lad and a lovely guy, so we managed to come up with something to keep him involved with the team.

"Carl will be training once a week and playing when we need him (if he is available)."

Slough enjoyed a four point weekend thanks to a 12-1 win against Romford on Saturday and a 2-1 win in Sheffield on Sunday.
