Khan - This win means a lot

When Maids thrashed Olney 75-0 on April 18, 2009 to cap a promotion-winning season in South West 2, no-one could have guessed it would be another nine months before they would get the chance to celebrate victory again.
This depressing losing streak - 17 mathces in all, 15 in the league - finally ended on Saturday when Maids snatched a late try to beat Chippenham 23-21 at Braywick.
The frustrations of the season were put to one side after the final whistle as players and long-suffering supporters revelled in that winning feeling.
Although the win may have little impact on Maids’ fight to beat the drop from National 3 South West, head coach Ricky Khan was delighted to finally notch a success.
He said: “It feels like a weight has been lifted. Everyone was relieved to finally get the win.
“It means a lot to me, and also to the players and the rest of the coaching staff.
“For me the most pleasing thing was to see these young players show their character.
“All the supporters after the match were congratulating us and remarking that it was great to see that we never gave up.”
