Brown: Magpies must get back to winning ways

Maidenhead United FC assistant manager Dereck Brown says it’s important the Magpies bounce back from their 4-0 drubbing at Hampton & Richmond Borough.

The game was all over as contest before half-time on Saturday after Pat Sappleton and Jamal Fyfield received their marching orders and Hampton cruised into a two-goal lead.

Yet despite playing for over 45 minutes down to nine men, Brown thought the Magpies performed well after the break.

“I thought we played OK in the second half,” said Brown, speaking on behalf of boss Johnson Hippolyte, who is unwell.

“We were honest with the players at half-time. There was no point screaming and shouting. They knew they had to do better.

“And they did alright. With only nine men we even created a couple of chances.”

With a trip to Chelmsford City awaiting on Saturday, Brown stressed he is keen for the Magpies to return to winning ways after back-to-back defeats, which have seen the York Road outfit slip into the bottom half of the Conference South.

“We really want to get back to winning ways,” he stated. “We can write off the Hampton & Richmond performance because of the circumstances.

“Come Saturday we will be looking to get back to winning ways.”

Despite interest from Football League scouts, Will Hendry remains a Magpie for the time being. However, the midfield maestro is carrying a knock which may rule him out of the Chelmsford clash.

“Will’s carrying a little knock and we don’t know if he’ll be fit to play for anyone at the weekend,” confirmed Brown. “But it doesn’t surprise me that people are interested in  him.”

Also doubtful for the game is fellow midfielder Bradley Quamina.

Meanwhile, it will be on-loan striker Staforde Palmer’s last game for the club before he returns to Hayes & Yeading United.
