Celtic to make journey south

12:00am Thu 13th Mar 08

Fans of Glasgow giants Celtic are being urged to adopt League Two promotion hopefuls Wycombe Wanderers as their ‘second club’.

Supporters of the Scottish champions are invited to Wycombe’s home game against Chester City next month.

Steve Hayes, Wycombe’s managing director, said: ‘There are so many links between Wycombe and Celtic. Paul Lambert, Neil Lennon, Rab Douglas and Steve Guppy all played for Celtic and, of course, Martin O’Neill is one of the most successful managers either club has ever had.

‘I’m sure Celtic fans keep an eye out for our results so we thought it would be a good idea to invite them along to see us play.

“They have a huge following in England and thousands of their fans live within an hour’s journey of Wycombe. They hardly ever get the chance to get together so this is the perfect occasion.’

When the Blues take on Chester on Saturday, April 19th, the Adams Park stand normally reserved for visiting fans will be turned into a Celtic enclosure.

Hayes added: “Celtic played here a few years ago in a testimonial match and they brought a huge following. Their fans behaved impeccably and we said then that Celtic supporters will always be welcomed back to Adams Park.”
