Bore draw for Maids

12:00am Mon 10th Mar 08

Entertaining it was not, but Maids did collect another valuable point at Aylesbury on Saturday.

The game had that end of season feel about it from the start as defences dominated in this dour affair, but it was enough to take Maids past the 30-point mark for the season.

Maids enjoyed the best of the early exchanges, slicing through the Aylesbury defence and getting round the back of their opponents without ever producing a clear-cut opportunity.

It was Aylesbury, against the run of play, who created the best chance of the half, but Paul Brown produced a fine stop on the post from a goal-bound short corner.

The game did pick up after the interval, as both sides pushed for victory. Maids, once again, enjoyed the best of the chances but were unable to test the keeper as the game trundled towards full-time.

Maids captain, Neel Sood, who has been ruled out for the season after sustaining a serious shoulder injury, admitted it hadn’t been the best game to watch.
“It was not a great game,” he said.

“Neither keeper was really tested and chances were far and few between so a draw was a fair result. I thought we played the better hockey and created the better opportunities to score but it was not to be.”

Maids host BAA Heathrow in their final home league game of the season this Saturday, with a 2pm start at Altwood.

Sood added: “We’ll be looking for a victory at home to BA on Saturday, we deserved our win at their place because we played the more intelligent hockey, so there is no reason we can’t do that again.

Maids: Osbon, Rymer, Ferrand, Brown, Joys, Luff, Hodson, Barnes (c), Adams, Fletcher, Nott, Harris-Evans, Miall.
