The new manager of Reading FC Brendan Rodgers was introduced to the British media at a press conference at the Madejski stadium this morning.
The Royals paid Watford a substantial compensation fee to secure Rodgers and the 36-year-old is delighted to return to his old club and is determined to return Reading to the Premier League.
Club chairman Sir John Madejski said Rodgers was a dynamic young manager who knew the club inside out and would be a perfect fit for Reading FC.
Rodgers admits he has very large shoes to fill after Steve Coppell's successful reign but said he was his own man and was confident he could take the club forward.
"This is a very special football club and when I heard about the interest it was a very difficult job to turn down," said Rodgers whose family are based in the area.
"I have been associated with this club since I was 15 years old. In some ways I feel I am already 1-0 up because I know the people and can identify with the town.
"Reading is a massive club and my ambition is to become the second manager in its history to guide this club to the Premier League."
Rodgers first came to Reading as a 15-year-old from Northern Ireland, but injury curtailed his promising career.
He joined the club's back room staff and worked his way up to become Academy manager before moving to Chelsea in 2004 to work under Jose Mourinho. While there, he became reserve team manager and earned the nickname the 'son' of the Special One. He is still in regularly contact with Mourinho and spoke to him before accepting the manager's job at Reading.
