Update, March 7: A man injured in a vehicle fire in Slough has passed away from his injuries.
Police and the fire brigade were called out to help a man who was severely burned by a vehicle alight in Slough on Wednesday, February 28.
At around 9pm on Wednesday, February 28, Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue services were called to a fire in Wordsworth Road.
Fire crews from Maidenhead, Slough and Langley Fire Stations rushed to the scene. Speaking to the Express, Maidenhead Fire Station described this as a ‘serious incident’ - one of three that took place in Slough that night.
Crews were accompanied by one fire officer, who are often deployed for perceived major incidents.
On arrival, they found one vehicle on fire, and used a hose reel to extinguish it. They were on scene for about an hour and a half.
Firefighters rescued one person before placing them in the care of South Central Ambulance Service. The man suffered severe burns.
In a statement, a spokesperson for the police said they were called to a report of a fear for welfare in Wordsworth Road at around 9.05pm on February 28. A man was taken to hospital with 'severe burns' and remained there for days.
However, today (March 7), the Express heard that the man had passed away from his injuries. The police spokesperson said:
"Tragically, the man injured in a fire in Wordsworth Road has died of his injuries in hospital.
"His death is being treated as unexplained but not suspicious, and a file is being prepared for the coroner.
"Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the man."
