The Met Office blamed a 'technical error' after it sent out emails warning Windsor and Maidenhead will be hit by snow yesterday — despite the area enjoying one of the warmest days of the year so far.
Subscribers to the weather service's alert system received emails in the afternoon telling them an 'amber warning of snow' will be in place across London and the South-east between 9pm and 10pm.
Users took to social media to voice their confusion and the Met Office soon confirmed on Twitter that 'test warnings' had mistakenly been sent out.
It said: "Due to a technical error, test warnings mistakenly appeared on our website and apps. The issue has now been resolved."
