A medical student has scooped £5,000 after placing a £1 bet on Leicester City FC to win the Premier League.
Eleanor Reeve, 22, (pictured) placed the bet when the odds of the team topping the league were 5,000-1, and on Monday night it was made official, netting her the cash.
Eleanor, of Cannock Close, Maidenhead, placed the bet on a whim earlier in the season but has since become an avid Leicester City supporter, watching their Premier League games in the hope of her bet coming in.
Having never been a football fan before, Eleanor asked her father Michael and brother Henry, both life-long Leicester fans, for background information and took one of Michael’s old football shirts to wear at the pub when watching matches.
Michael said: “I wish I’d done it now.
“We were all really excited; the last few weeks have been quite gripping and tense.
“She’s been at the pub to watch every game and now loves football and is a Leicester City fan going forward.”
Eleanor, a former pupil of Oldfield Primary School, is planning ways of spending her winnings; a designer handbag and a trip to New York are on her wish list.
