A woman was grabbed by the throat and forced to the floor by a robber in the early hours of yesterday morning.
Police are appealing for witnesses to the attack-which is the fourth in the Grenfell Road area in just eight months.
The 45-year-old woman was grabbed from behind some time between midnight and 2am as she was walking home along Grenfell Road after a night out in the town centre.
She fought back and kneed him in the groin and he ran off with her handbag.
Detective Inspector Stuart Bosley, from Maidenhead CID, said: "The victim has been understandably left very shaken by this incident.
"It happened in a busy road and it is likely that other people would have been in the area, either in a car or on foot, and they may have information that could help us progress our investigation.
"It is also likely that the offender followed the victim for some distance and I am keen to hear from anyone who remembers someone matching his description acting suspiciously."
He said the victim could not remember exactly where in Grenfell Road the attack took place.
The offender is dark skinned, either Asian or black, 25-30 years-old, around 5ft 8ins with a medium build.
Three previous attacks in the road all remain unsolved and DI Bosley said the force was 'keeping an open mind' as to whether all four could be linked.
On Saturday, July 23 last year, a 16-year-old girl was sexually assaulted by a man near the Bath Road junction of the road.
On Tuesday, September 6 last year, just before midnight, a man attempted to rape a 42-year-old woman in an alleyway linking Grenfell Road to Kings Grove.
On Saturday, December 10 last year, a mugger left a 28-year-old woman with a fractured skull after attacking her just off Grenfell Road under the railway bridge in Silco Drive.
