Great Western Railway cleaners to go on strike

Cleaners working on Great Western Railway trains will stage two strikes this month after voting in favour of industrial action.

Union RMT said today that 98 per cent of those who voted were in favour of striking, with the first walkout scheduled to take place between 5.59am on Friday and 5.58am on Saturday.

A second strike is scheduled to take place between 5.59am on Friday, December 23 and 5.58am on Saturday, December 24.

The dispute is over a number of issues, including pay, annual leave and the use of agency workers.

A total of 189 union members were balloted, with a 58 per cent turnout.

The union said it remains open for further talks.

Will anyone notice any difference, given the frequently locked or unusable lavatories? On the other hand no doubt there will be plenty of newspapers left by other travellers, available to read.
