A popular 26-year-old who died after being hit by a car in the early hours of Sunday has been described as a ‘beautiful person’ and ‘a ray of sunshine over Maidenhead’.
Friends, family and colleagues have paid tribute to Carl Walker, who was killed in an accident with an Audi A3 on the A404 near Burchetts Green.
His family described him as a ‘kind, funny and thoughtful man who would always make himself available in a time of need’.
The former Desborough College pupil, who had worked at Norden Farm since he was 18, was a familiar face around Maidenhead and the family said the tributes and support they have received have been ‘overwhelming’.
Dozens of messages have been left on a Facebook tribute page, with friends calling Carl, who lived in Castle Hill Terrace, ‘one of the nicest people I knew’ and a ‘special and amazing soul’.
Friend Georgia Parsons, who set up the page, said Carl was the ‘happiest and funniest person to be around’ and ‘a ray of sunshine over Maidenhead’.
A JustGiving page, set up to help pay for the former All Saints School pupil’s funeral costs, has raised more than £6,000 in donations despite setting an initial target of just £1,000.
Carl’s twin Sean said the past two summers had been the happiest of his brother’s life and he enjoyed ‘any social activity he could attend’.
The former Odeon worker was also a regular at the cinema and music festivals, and was described as an ‘extremely passionate’ and knowledgeable barman for Norden Farm.
His Norden Farm colleagues said his ‘warmth, sense of fun and professionalism radiated out to other staff and customers’.
A statement on behalf of the family said: “Carl was a beautiful person who had the amazing gift of being able to fill a room with joy and laughter.
“There are so many words to describe this kind, funny and thoughtful man that would always make himself available in a time of need.
“He was the best friend, son, brother and twin anyone could hope for. Carl has left us with so many great memories.”
Carl died after being hit by a black Audi on the northbound carriageway of the A404 at about 2am on Sunday. The car stopped after the accident, which took place near the turning for the A4130 Henley Road.
Police are appealing for witnesses to come forward.
