Fire at Slough factory

11:06am Sat 7th Feb 09:: written by Lisa De Sousa

A factory partially destroyed by a huge explosion in December was hit by another blaze yesterday.

Emergency services were called to Duco International in Dover Road, Slough, at about 2.40pm after a fire broke out in a chemical storage warehouse.

The sprinkler system had been activated and firefighters from Slough took about 50 minutes to extinguish the flames.

No one was injured in the incident.

The firm, based on the trading estate, manufactures equipment for the printing industry.

The blast at the plant in December was so powerful it blew out the windows of nearby buildings and could be heard by people in Windsor and Maidenhead. Other trading estate employees thought a train had crashed.

Miracuously no one was injured because Duco staff were all in a meeting at the other end of the building when the explosion hit.

The Health and Safety Executive has yet to release the results of an investigation into what caused the blast in December.

  • It is a good thing they had a good sprinkler system and it worked. Lets hope the message of proper system installation and maintenance get out as they can save your staff and the business. Steve B
