Taxi driver fined over guide dog shun

4:20pm Tue 27th Jan 09:: written by Lisa de Sousa

A cabbie has been fined after he refused to give a lift to a disabled woman - because she had a guide dog with her.

Private hire driver Jarnail Singh told the hotel receptionist who booked the vehicle on the woman’s behalf that he ‘did not take dogs in his car.’

In refusing to take a booking from a disabled and partially blind customer reliant on a registered assistance dog, 45-year-old Mr Singh from Goodman Park in Slough, committed an offence under the Disability Discrimination Act (DDA) 1995.

He failed to show up to his hearing at Bracknell Magistrates Court on Friday, January 23, but was convicted in his absence, of disability discrimination offences.
He was ordered to pay more than £2,000 in fines and court costs.
