A package of special parking measures has been introduced by the Royal Borough as part of a campaign to encourage a thriving Christmas shopping season.
The scheme, for the town centres of Maidenhead and Windsor, features free parking on some evenings and Sundays as well as extra parking spaces created by extending the use of existing car parks at off-peak times.
Cllr Colin Rayner, cabinet member for highways, said: "We hope that by making parking easier and even free on many occasions we will attract people into the towns to enjoy everything the borough has to offer."
Free parking will be available as follows:
In Windsor (and Eton) in Alma Road, Alexandra gardens, Romney Lock, Victoria Street, Eton Court, Meadow Lane and King Edward V11 car parks
• after 4pm every Thursday from November 27
• every Sunday in December
• all day on Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day
• £2 flat rate for cars in the coach park between 10am and 4pm from December 15 to 24.
In Maidenhead in all council car parks (Hines Meadow, Nicholsons, Stafferton Way, Grove Road, West Street and Town Hall)
• every Sunday
• Thursdays, November 27 and 4, 11 and 18 December from 4pm
• Saturday, November 29 for Christmas lights switch-on from 4pm
• Christmas Eve from 4pm
• Christmas Day and New Year’s Day.
