£1m cash boost for children's centres

A  £1million Government windfall will pay for six new centres across the Royal Borough, offering help and support to families with children aged under five.

These centres are being funded by the Government all over the country. But for a long time Windsor and Maidenhead was left out - because the Government regarded it as one of the richer boroughs. Later the Government relented and allowed enough money for seven to be set up, although they were only extensions of existing services.

But at last week's meeting of the authority's ruling cabinet, cabinet member for education, Cllr Eileen Quick (Con, Clewer East) revealed that £975,000 had now been made available to enable another six children's centres to be set up over the next 18 months.

Areas that will benefit include Larchfield, Pinkneys Green, Broom Farm Estate in Windsor, OLd Windsor's Kings Court First School, St Mary's School in Datchet and Eton Wick village.
