11:58am Thu 25th Sep 08:: written by Gareth McPherson

Police lifted a dead body from the railway line in Taplow this morning after a man was struck by a train.

The man, believed to be middle-aged, died instantly as he was hit by the commuter train near to Taplow Railway Station.

At least 10 police cars from British Transport Police and Thames Valley Police, were on the scene with ambulances, from about 9am.

The station has been closed, nearby roads shut and First Great Western train services between Reading and London Paddington have been disrupted.

A spokesman for British Transport Police, said the death was not being treated as suspicious.
"The driver applied emergency brakes but was unable to avoid striking a man on the line," he said.

A spokesman for FGW said their tickets are being accepted on London Underground, Chiltern Railways and South West Trains services for reasonable routes.

As a result of the incident FGW has cancelled the opening of the £1m new-look station at Maidenhead, which was scheduled for today. Another date will be arranged.
