TV archaeologist is coming to Marlow

8:37am Thu 25th Sep 08:: written by Daniel Darlington

A well-respected TV archeologist is preparing to visit Marlow next week to give a lecture on the topic of Stonehenge.

Julian Richards, host of BBC 2 show Meet the Ancestors, is an expert in his field and has been invited to give an illustrated talk by the Marlow Archaeological Society on October 2.

Stonehenge, near Salisbury in Wiltshire, is an important World Heritage Site and consists of a number of free standing stones - each weighing up to 50 tonnes - positioned in a circle.

The pagan shrine hit the news earlier this week when new radiocarbon-dating methods have dated the ring's original bluestones about 300 years later than previously thought. Until now, dates for the first stone circle were placed at between 2600 and 2400BC.

Marlow Archaeological Society member Pam Knight said: "Julian has been featured in the news on BBC TV this week, talking about the latest, mysterious finds from this year's excavations at Stonehenge, which is Britain's most famous ancient monument, and promises to tell us more of the latest findings there in Marlow next week."

The talk is due to be held at the Liston Hall, in Marlow, from 8pm.
Tickets available at Marlow Tourist Information Office in the High Street or on 01628 520004.
