Police appeal for witnesses after rape claim

An appeal for witnesses has been mounted after a woman was allegedly raped in Reading town centre on Saturday.

A 24-year-old woman was allegedly attacked by a man in the graveyard of St Lawrence's Church, Friar Street between 2am and 3am on Saturday, August 30.

DI Rebecca Mears, of Reading CID said: “I am appealing for anyone who thinks they may have witnessed any suspicious behaviour or a distressed woman with a man in the Friar Street area of Reading around the time of the incident to come forward.

“The victim is being supported by a specially trained officer following her ordeal.”
