Relatives pays tribute to 'family man' Daniel Quelch

4:44pm Mon 1st Sep 08

The family of Daniel Quelch (pictured), the father-of-three stabbed to death by paranoid schizophrenic Benjamin Frankum, who was today found guilty of his killing, have released a tribute to relative.

It states: "Danny was very much a family man and we all miss him so much. He was the youngest of four brothers and a devoted father to his three children. He would often call his Mum three times a day and we always spent Sunday lunches together as a family.

“Danny worked as a landscape gardener in the Maidenhead area and was well liked by his employers and co-workers. He specialised in garden design and was brilliant and very creative.

“He was never happier than when he was outside with nature. Even when he was a child, he used to bring home wounded animals and once he managed to get a robin to sit on his hand in the garden and was so pleased with himself.

“He was a fanatical fisherman; he would go fishing at all times of the year, even in deep winter, and sometimes he would go fishing before work at 6am and then again in the evening. He spent a lot of time fishing at Twyford Lake and had a wide circle of fishing friends who miss him so much.

“Danny was also a keen supporter and season ticket holder of Reading Football Club and enjoyed taking his kids along to watch matches. He’d recently moved to Spencers Wood and was enjoying doing-up his new home and had just come back from a biking holiday with his Dad in Ireland.

“Danny was a very gentle man, with a lovely smile and lovely eyes. His loss has changed our lives and affected the whole family forever.”
