Fight for lock keepers' homes continues

10:32am Fri 18th Jul 08:: written by Sonia Kapur

A lock keepers wife is still urging residents to support her fight to save her family home.

The Environment Agency (EA) had proposed to sell and rent all the lock keepers cottages in the UK.

While the EA has put the decision on hold,  the Save Our Service (SOS) team is still fighting hard to make sure their homes are secure.

Kim Benge, the wife of the Cookham lock keeper, said: "If all the publicity dies down the EA will not change there plans. We believe that if the public continue to show there displeasure and also there support for us, then they will seriously have to come up with another plan."

Mrs Benge is asking residents to voice their concerns to the Secretary of State for Environment Food and Rural Affairs, MP Hilary Benn.
Letters should be sent to Rt Hon Hilary Benn, Defra, Eastbury House, 30 - 34 Albert Embankment, London, SE1 7TL.
