Tesco battle with residents continues

10:19am Wed 16th Jul 08:: written by Antony Quarrell

Battle lines are set to be drawn again in Sunninghill after Tesco appealed a decision to throw out plans for a hugely controversial store in the village.

The supermarket giant has lodged an appeal after the Royal Borough rejected plans for the store in High Street last month in front of a capacity crowd of residents opposing the scheme.

The council said the scheme failed to provide sufficient parking, would result in loss of amenity to residents, as well as its "unneighbourly" delivery and service yard and the lack of a satisfactory Section 106 contributions.

More than 600 letters of objection were received by the council regarding the scheme compared to just two in favour.

A Tesco spokesman said: "We were disappointed by the decision and considered our options and decided that we would appeal the decision."
