Polish community website launched

4:16pm Tue 8th Jul 08:: written by Glenn Mitchell

A website launched to forge closer links between Polish residents and the wider community in East Berkshire has been given police backing.

Polishcommunity.net.pl - created by Andrzej Ostapko, a Polish man who has been living in Slough for the past three years - will be officially launched at Gospoda pub in Reading on Thursday.

Run by Andrzej and some of his friends on a voluntary basis, the website offers information in Polish and English about jobs, services, accommodation, social activities and more, and is being billed as the biggest bilingual internet portal for the Polish community in Berkshire.

The website has a section dedicated to Thames Valley Police which includes witness appeals, details of police services and information about the law.

Andrzej said: "When I first came to Berkshire I couldn’t find any information in Polish about jobs, accommodation or public services. Thankfully I speak English, but I know that many other Poles do not so I decided to do something about it and create a website providing all the information Polish people need."
