A gang of teenagers including one from Slough, have been sentenced to a young offenders institution after partially blinding a former US Marine in a drug and booze fuelled 'mob-handed attack'.
The 52-year-old victim was left with a broken cheek bone and the partial loss of vision in his left eye after the attack on January 19 last year, shortly after a late-night train between Slough and London pulled into Paddington station.
He was targeted after he stepped in on behalf of fellow passengers who were being harassed by the group.
Passing sentence at Southwark Crown Court on Thursday last week, the judge described the incident as a 'mob-handed attack'.
Warsama Abdillahi, 18, of Cheviot Road, Slough, (pictured) was found guilty of violent disorder and theft. He was sentenced to 30 months in a young offenders' institution.
Ahmed Awled, 18, of Sheffield, was found guilty of grievous bodily harm with intent and violent disorder. He was sentenced to five and a half years but failed to attend court and is now on the run. Awled had admitted to chewing the herbal stimulant “khat” before punching the victim in the face.
Isaak Abdillahi, 19, of Northolt, Middlesex, was found guilty of violent disorder and sentenced to 25 months, while Ahmed Hassan, 19, of Hayes, Middlesex, was found guilty of violent disorder and sentenced to 18 months.
