Speed limit down to 20mph near school

9:11am Thu 3rd Jul 08:: written by Antony Quarrell

A speed restriction zone will be slapped on a stretch of road outside a school which has been plagued by pests including hot rods and mopeds.

Residents petitioned the royal borough for the introduction of a 20mph zone in the whole of Dedworth's Laing Estate area, however councillors have agreed to impose a 20mph zone only in the area around Homer First School in Testwood Road.

They made the decision at a cabinet meeting last week and have also agreed to discuss more effective enforcement of anti social driving and to consider locations for the deployment of SIDs (Speed Indicator Devices) in the area.

Cllr Colin Rayner, Lead member for Highways, Transport and the Environment, said if the measures could be funded within this year's capital funding program they would be, otherwise it would be within the 2009/2010 program.
