A cyclist was seriously injured after being involved in collision with a car on the A4 yesterday.

The man was taken to Royal Berkshire Hospital in Reading with head and leg injuries after his bike collided with a silver Vauxhall at about 5.30pm.

Shortly after the accident, which happened near the Charvil roundabout, police closed part of Old Bath Road and crime scene investigators were dispatched to the area.

Speaking at the scene Sergeant James Atkinson said the cyclist had suffered 'substantial' injuries and that nobody had been arrested.

He asked any witnesses to the accident to contact Sergeant Coleman at Chieveley Policing Department on 08458 505 505.

  • My son and I saw the accident and I am horrified at how much damage a car can do, but my only concern is that the cyclist did not have a halmet. I have rung to see if he is OK and can only say after that day I want to stop all cyclists and tell them to wear a helmet. We need to make this a legal requirement like wearing a seatbelt. We need to make people more aware even do not wear a helmet but I have change my mind.Kerry Anderson
