In the first home fixture of the season Maidenhead Town Bowls club had to contend with some classic Irish charm and a big slice of Irish luck as they lost 112-103 to the visitors London Irish Bowling Association.

In a game full of good banter and good bowling across the rinks Maidenhead Town scored one winning
rink, a draw and four minus cards.

The rink skipped by Malcolm Tingle scored a four on the first end, although they lost the next two ends before quickly settled into a winning rhythm.

In a strong position of 17-4 up at nine ends, they maintained the pressure to hang on to a final score of 28-14.

Rinks (Maidenhead team, London Irish skips): Diane Maidment, Wally Hammond, Jim Mitson, Malcolm Tingle 28, Peter Bartholomew 14; Keith Thompson, Bill Fox, Les Wescott and Derek Britten 13, John Russell 23; John Roberts, Prakash Bhardwa, Peter Sheldrick, 16 Frank Oliver, 24; John Williams, Eddie Cutche, Martin Behmber, Stewart Wright 17, Dave Seymour 17; Eric Sharpe, Bill Murphy, John Quevillart, Frank Shaw 16, Terry Fitzgerald 19; John Wells, Ruth Keys, Kathy Wells, Brian Allaway 13, Des Hunter 15.

Captain Brian Allaway took his Maidenhead Town team to Thame for a first fixture of the season, a four rink affair which they lost by 87-68.

Top rink was skipped by Clive Behmber with Frank Shaw at three, Ben Broers at two and George Coussins at lead who won 22-15.

The other rinks all lost - Brian Allaway, Derek Britten, Robert Knight and Eddie Cutche went down 26-18; while Jim Turner, Bill King, Keith Thompson and John Wells lost 28-11.

Vic Pointing with Cy Woodward, Ray Wheeler, John Williams were 18-7 down at 14 ends but recovered to win the last six ends, however they still eventually lost 18-17.
