Pressure mounts on rail firm

4:42pm Wed 23rd Apr 08:: written by Claire Moulson

The controversial subject of a train operator's performance has once again been put under scrutiny.

At a Royal Borough meeting last night, councillors pledged to put pressure on First Great Western (FGW) to improve its service.

The council voted in wake of reports that one in five trains run at least ten minutes late, unanimously supporting a motion from Cllr Simon Dudley, which highlighted the need for a remedial plan to be produced by the train operator in a bid to rectify its failings.

The remedial plan was issued by Transport Secretary Ruth Kelly to FGW in February.

Cllr Dudley said: "We are determined to continue to lobby FGW to ensure that they significantly improve the services they provide to our residents."
