BREAKING NEWS: Fire in Grenfell Road house

12:30pm Tue 27th Jul 10:: written by Gareth McPherson

A fire gripped a terraced house in Maidenhead this morning where up to three people were sleeping.

Two crews tackled the blaze shortly after 10am but no-one was injured after a passer-by ran in to rush people out.

Crowds gathered around the Grenfell Road house as fire and smoke billowed out of the upstairs windows, gutting the top half of the property.

Five tenants were said to live there.

Jason Cunningham, crew commander at Windsor, said fire and police investigators originally thought it may have been started deliberately because the back door and windows were open when they arrived.

But fire investigators now believe it was accidental.

"I'm 90 per cent sure it was caused by an electrical fault," he said.
