'Eyesore' flats set for demolition in Britwell regeneration

11:10am Sat 20th Mar 10:: written by Terry Pattinson

The Britwell regeneration plan moved a step nearer this week when planners voted overwhelmingly in favour of the project.

Slough Borough Council's planning committee agreed outline planning permission at the town hall on Wednesday.

All agreed that the Wentworth Avenue flats are an 'eyesore' and must be demolished as soon as possible.

The multi-million plan, adjoining Long Furlong Drive, includes new 'bus hub' facilities with information screens and bus shelters, shops, restaurants and cafes, hot food takeaways, and 97 new houses.

It also means new scout and guide headquarters, play areas, two zebra crossings, pedestrian/cycle links, car parking, new footpath and improvements to Kennedy Park.

Deputy leader James Swindlehurst admitted: "All the tenants of that block in Wentworth Avenue want to be re-housed and I am ashamed that such housing still exists."
