VIDEO: Held To Account: Cllr Simon Dudley on changes to adult social care

Sweeping changes are being made to adult social care in the Royal Borough.

From April 1 the council will begin to implement a new system of personal budgets for the 1,600 elderly and disabled residents who use the service.

Under the new system all service users will be financially assessed and residents eligible for help from the council will have a set budget paid directly into their personal bank account.

This will be used to purchase a package of care they have drawn up and agreed with the council.

Central government has given the Royal Borough a £957,000 grant to implement the switch over, which is due to be completed by April 2012.

Reporter Laura Enfield sat down with cabinet member for adult and community services, Cllr Simon Dudley, to find out how the change will go ahead and what it will mean for residents.
