A front page article was the icing on the cake for a pensioner celebrating his 90th birthday.

Denis Day, of Holtspur Lane, was left gobsmacked when a cake designed to look like a copy of his favourite weekly newspaper was brought out for him on Wednesday.

The jubilant great-grandfather, who is technically 22, having been born on February 29, later said: "I still can't stop thinking about it and how much detail is on it.
"I never dreamed I would get a cake with that laid out on it."

The cake - which took seven hours to make - was crafted for him by friend Dilys Gordon who baked it in honour of his charity exploits over the years which have seen him raise about £70,000 for good causes.

However, Denis could not bring himself to devour the work of art and is intending to have it framed and hung in his living room.
