Crimefighting weekend for special constables

10:17am Sun 7th Feb 10:: written by Gareth McPherson

Special constables have been out patrolling Slough, Windsor and Maidenhead this weekend to fight crime and antisocial behaviour.

The volunteers are not paid but have the same training as standard police officers and there are 77 of them working across East Berkshire.

Paying tribute to them Superintendent Tim De Meyer, of Windsor and Maidenhead, described them as 'invaluable'.

"They provide welcome additional support and expertise at our busiest times and are an excellent link between the police and the community," he said.
