Commons debate over allegation of school's extremist links

6:25pm Wed 25th Nov 09:: written by Luke Cross

Claims that a Slough primary school is linked to an Islamic extremist group were put to the Prime Minister by David Cameron this afternoon.

The Conservative leader made the allegations to Gordon Brown during Prime Minister’s question time in the House of Commons.

Mr Cameron slammed the Department of Culture, Schools, Families (DCSF) for giving £113,000 to the Islamic Shakhsiyah Foundation, which runs the school in Petersfield Avenue as well as one in Tottenham.

The Tory leader accused the registered charity of having links to Hizb ut-Tahrir, an extremist party threatened with being banned from the UK.

The Express reported the alleged links three weeks ago, when headteacher of the Slough school, Farah Ahmed said Islamic Shakhsiyah Foundation is ‘a completely independent charitable organisation which is not run or influenced by any other organisation’.

Although Haringey Council suspended its funding, Slough council did not, saying the school of 90 pupils aged three to 11 years old, was accredited by Oftsed.
