A deluge did not stop the crowds gathering for Windsor's Christmas lights switch-on over the weekend.

Performances from a 100-strong rock choir, the 1st Battalion Irish Guards musical band and the choir of St George's Chapel went ahead outside the castle despite of the downpour.

BAFTA award-winning actress Wendy Craig and the BBC's I'd Do Anything runner-up Samantha Barks made the short walk from the Theatre Royal, where they will be performing Aladdin, to help turn on the lights.

Cllr Catherine Bursnall, deputy mayor, joined Wendy Craig for the grand turn-on.

Although there was a technical hitch with the switch on, the lights lit up Peascod Street on the second attempt.
