The future of the minor injuries unit still remains uncertain after a meeting today.
Board members from NHS Berkshire East have decided to look into a more cost effective way of keeping the service in Maidenhead.
The facility has cost NHS Berkshire East about £370,000 to run, it was revealed at a board meeting this morning.
Members recognised the demand of the service at St Marks Hospital, but raised concerns about the additional cost to the NHS.
They decided that an in-depth study about the level of activity at the MIU should be completed before a decision is made. The study will include the type of injuries that are treated there.
This study will now be presented to the board in January. The unit will remain open during this period.

- This cost is only the amount one would spend on 19 employees for a year and not for a well advertised unit in full swing, relieving the local hospitals with a budget of up to one million. So shall we hang the cost and treat the sick in Maidenhead for the first time since our beloved council gave our cottage hospital.
