Reading FC manager Brian McDermott paid a visit to students at Berkshire College of Agriculture on Thursday last week.
The Premier League boss spent the afternoon watching players who are part of the college's football academy, which is run in partnership with the Royals.
Director of marketing at the Hall Place site, Sarah Irvine, said the arrival of the football manager had caused excitement among the students.
"They were just so looking forward to meeting him and having a chance to play in front of him," she added.
The football academy is now in its second year and consists of 45 pupils aged from 16 to 18-years-old who are studying a BTEC sports programme.
