The Ice Bucket Challenge has taken the world by storm.

Initially launched to promote awareness of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), also known as motor neurone disease, the challenge involves people being filmed having a bucket of ice water dumped over their head and nominating other people to take the challenge.

People who don't take it up are encouraged to forfeit by making a charitable donation, but many people who have taken the challenge choose to donate anyway.

To date, the Motor Neurone Disease Association has raised more than £2m and the ALS Association more than $90m, but a number of people have elected to support other charities when taking, or not taking, the challenge.

We asked our readers to send us their Ice Bucket Challenge videos and you can view a selection of them below. We've also thrown in a couple of celebrity participants from our area.
