Rowers and punters to hit the Thames for regatta's this weekend

Rowers and punters will be racing down the Thames this weekend.

On Saturday, Maidenhead Rowing Club is hosting its annual regatta. The action starts at 8.30am on a 500m course down the river near Maidenhead Bridge and the rowing club's base in River Road, Taplow.

Crews from Maidenhead, Marlow and Guildford will be joined by others from across the South-east.

It is free to watch the action. Refreshment will be available from the rowing club between 9am and 5pm.

Maidenhead Rowing Club captain James Hanson said: "Our aim as a club has always been to put on the best event we can for both competitors and spectators.

"This year we've made some exciting changes, including extending the day's racing, that we feel allow us to do just that."

On Sunday, the Thames Punting Club is hosting its regatta.

The traditional event sees racers use poles to direct their barges down the river.

It will be held downstream of Maidenhead Rowing Club. The racing takes place between 10.30am-4pm.
