Newlands swimming pool plans to be discussed by Royal Borough

Proposals to build a new swimming pool at Newlands Girls' School are among the plans due to be discussed at a Royal Borough planning meeting next week.

Councillors will meet at Maidenhead Town Hall on Wednesday to discuss plans to build an enlarged pool at the school, in Farm Road, as a replacement for an existing pool at the site.

The pool would be used primarily by the school but would also be made available for swimming lessons for the wider community, including disabled users.

Changing rooms, a store and plant room for pumps and equipment would also be installed as part of the plans.

Officers have recommended approval of  the plans, subject to conditions.

Other plans due to be discussed include:

  • Shanly Homes has appealed against the borough's failure to determine an application to build 16 homes at the site of Payton House in Gorse Road, Cookham, within the statutory, 13-week period, meaning the matter is now out of the council's hands. Panel members will discuss the deferred plans and indicate what their decision would have been if an appeal had not been lodged, with officers recommending refusal.
  • Plans for the construction of four, one-bedroom flats, two, two-bedroom maisonettes and a three-bedroom detached house at the former site of Marblecraft in Portlock Road have been recommended for refusal.
  • An application to build seven houses following the demolition of Ivanhoe and Craft Cottage in Cox Green Lane, Cox Green, has been recommended for approval, subject to conditions being met and additional information being provided.
  • The construction of eight flats following the demolition of two houses at 26-28 Forlease Road has been recommended for approval, subject to conditions.
  • Plans to build five apartments at the site of Rousbury in Shoppenhangers Road have been recommended for approval, subject to conditions.

The meeting will take place at 7pm.
