The driver killed in a fatal car crash in Furze Platt Road in Maidenhead on Friday has been named as Stephen Christopher Dawson.

The Berkshire coroner's office opened an inquest into the death of the 27-year-old, from High Wycombe, this morning.

He died after the silver Skoda Octavia he was driving collided with a lamppost near the junction with Cranbrook Drive at about 6.45am.

Firefighters had used hydraulic equipment to free him from the car and an ambulance crew took him to hospital where he later died.

Police are appealing for witnesses. Call 101 with information.
