TRAFFIC: M4 crash causes delays between Maidenhead and Wokingham

An man has been injured following an accident on the M4 between junctions 8/9 for Maidenhead and junction 10 for Wokingham.

Emergency services were called to the scene at about 11.30am after a vehicle left the road and crashed into a tree.

Fire crews from Reading, Maidenhead and Bracknell were at the scene and used cutting equipment to free a 21-year-old man, who was trapped in the vehicle.

Paramedics treated the man for chest injuries. The accident has caused heavy congestion on the westbound carriageway between the two junctions.

Cars slowing to look at the accident is also causing queuing traffic on the eastbound carriageway.

UPDATE: The accident occurred after the car, a blue Vauxhall Astra, collided with a silver Mondeo.

The eastbound lane was closed while an air ambulance arrived to take the man to John Radcliff Hospital in Oxford.
