Man, 41, fined for Christmas tree fly-tipping

A fly-tipper who illegally dumped a large pile of Christmas trees in a field off Paley Street has been fined.

Clifford Clarke, 41, of Carters Hill Park in Billingbear, Wokingham, appeared at Reading Magistrates' Court on Thursday and was found guilty of causing the illegal deposit of waste.

He was fined £500 and ordered to pay £1,260 in costs and a £50 victim surcharge.

The court heard that on January 1, a witness saw a man at the rear of a van throw a Christmas tree over a gate into a field, adding to a large pile already at the site.

When interviewed by the Royal Borough, Clarke admitted owning and controlling the use of the van but denied any involvement in the dumping.
