Model Royal Navy Destroyer set to sail down Thames today

A scale model of a Royal Navy Type 45 Destroyer is expected to sail down the River Thames today through Maidenhead as part of an ambitious charity project.

The 16ft, 1/32 scale model of HMS Daring belongs to the Kent-based model boat enthusiasts A Team Boatyard who are planning to sail the boat 250 miles up and down the Thames between Teddington and Lechlade.

Members will control the mini-warship from a boat following behind.

The voyage will pass through Maidenhead at about 2pm.

Money raised from the trip is set to be donated to the Royal British Legion and the RNLI.
