Stream through town should be left alone
12:00am Thu 7th Feb 08
Recently we have escaped flooding because of the new Jubilee River, but only just.
To allow the river back into this area by expanding the Maidenhead Ditch can only be considered crazy.
Yet the local authority have backed this idea, with a proposed £1million for it as a ‘community project’. Historically there never was any ‘boatway’ through town, out to Bray, except the Thames.
To claim otherwise is deception and historical bunkum. Anyway, it is only the town centre section that needs a sort out.
For the rest it provides a wildlife refuge and habitat of the best and most varied kind. It can be enjoyed for free, by those who care to walk this locality, as many do.
Because there is not too much human intrusion, this is possible. Any environmental impact assessment could only draw the same conclusion.
Is it not possible for sanity to prevail for once, in this ‘Royal Borough’ and that something worth keeping can be left alone?
